About the Jackson County Magazine
Welcome to your Jackson County Magazine! This site is for the citizens of Jackson
County, North Carolina.
The purpose of the web site and its weekly email version is to promote the authentic, strong spirit of community and citizenship that we enjoy in our towns and all of Jackson County. We spotlight outstanding and interesting places, events, groups, businesses and individuals in Jackson County, especially those that foster community pride and citizenship. The topic might be cultural, historical, controversial, traditional, musical, charitable, profitable, educational, mindless, exciting, rewarding or just plain weird... all of which are right here in Jackson County.
The site strives to be interactive, by inviting you to participate. Each article includes a special area at the bottom of the page, where you can add comments; then others can comment on your comments.
We are anxious to publish articles you'd like to submit for publication, especially if you have a story to tell. What's your passion? Everybody in Jackson County is a potential contributor. Send it in!
For example, we'd love for you to send us:
Emily Elders does most of our writing. Dave Baker does most of the editing and acts as webmaster.
Jackson County has four weekly newspapers and a locally operated radio station, each of which is a rich source for local news. Jackson County Magazine isn't trying to replace them or even compete with them, but tries to supplement them a bit by publishing stories about people, places and events that might not have been covered yet or that we'd like to address further. We link you directly to recommended online items in the other media.
We're looking for folks who like to write, edit or take photographs, so call us if you'd like to get involved! Elders can be reached directly at 399-9691; Baker is at 587-6373. The pay is lousy, but you'll get a kewl jacksoncountymagazine.com email address and you'll be helping to make your community an even better place.
The mailing address is:

The company that publishes the magazine is BenefitsLink.com, Inc. (which publishes an online and email trade magazine you'd find rather dull, unless you're in the field of employee benefit plan administration!).

- A how-to article, such as "Where to take a kid to catch a fish on a Saturday morning."
- A regular column on some topic affecting our community that you're passionate about
- A question you'd like us to post so that others can answer, such as
"Why has Albert Einstein's face been hanging above the old Hooper's Drug Store location for so many years?"

This is great...I will print it out and place it by the bulletin board in the cafe. Thanks for sending me a copy.
